Biography

Jody Lambert was born in Montreal, Canada. From a young age, he drew inspiration from the punk and undergrounds communities his parents introduced him to. Zine expos, live shows, protests and skateboarding shaped his beginnings as an artist.

A camera in hand, he began capturing the world around him; long exposure, with a love for black and white films, he explores movements and memory through film photography. His work blurs the boundary between documentation and the abstract, transforming fleeting moments of community into raw, dreamlike images. Since 2021, Lambert has curated and documented shows for goodshowmtl, like A Good Showcase, as well as other events like Sticks and Bones, and the Bisoumtl series.

A multidisciplinary artist, he also possesses an impressive sketching and painting practise. Self-taught and inspired by the punk community he grew up around, he favors heavy strokes, texture and expressive contrasts. His rejection the traditional boundaries of fine arts allows him to freely create and explore dream-like, surreal universes, that sit somewhere between the known and unknown, the ugly and the beautiful. Constantly wishing to expand the norms of his practice, he has received training in screen pritting and linocut.

Now on the verge of completing a bachelor’s in environmental design at UQAM University, his interests sit at the intersection of architecture, design and art. Currently, he draws inspiration for his designs from organic textures and structures found in nature, as well as the process of decay of natural materials in our built environment.
